I don’t know of too many days which can’t be improved upon with a hot Epsom salt bath. When I’m having a busy or stressful day, a bath is a soothing way to (quite literally!) wash away my troubles and when I’m having a good one, a long soak provides some time to luxuriate and savor it.
Aside from the emotional benefits of an Epsom salt bath, there are well documented physical benefits, as well.
Epsom salts draw toxins out of the skin, prevent magnesium deficiency, reduce inflammation in the muscles and joints, stimulate digestion and promote sleep. (Source: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/epsom-salt-bath#1) Add some essential oils and you’ve got yourself a true spa experience!
My favorite essential oil to add is lavender, as I usually take my bath at night and enjoy the calm induced by the lavender oil. If you’d rather bathe in the morning, you might use an oil that’s more stimulating, such as peppermint or rosemary. If you’re suffering from a cold/congestion, eucalyptus is wonderful. And rose, geranium, and bergamot are all lovely, as well. Just make sure that the oils are pure, high quality oils, as they are absorbed through the skin and into the body (I highly recommend the Young Living brand, which is top quality).
Now, go treat yo’self! You deserve it…
