The tea known as “yogi tea” is the basic chai blend served throughout India. It’s a combination of black tea and several warming spices, such as cinnamon, cardamom and black pepper. And it’s divine! I was introduced to it a couple of years ago, when a teacher of mine served it to the students after class and I’ve been making it ever since. In the winter, there is nothing more comforting than a piping hot cup and in the summer, it’s lovely iced. I rarely add milk, however, some people do. One friend famine even froths milk and makes it into more of a latte.
The blend I love best is called Original Cinnamon Spice Tea by Ancient Healing Ways. This tea is sold loose, so when I make it, I boil a big pot of it (about two quarts) and store it in mason jars in the fridge. It will last for up to 2 weeks but, honestly, it never lasts that long in my house. (And the smell, as it simmers on the stove is absolutely intoxicationg!)
Because this blend of spices is reminiscent of the holidays, I find myself reaching for it even more at this time of year. If you try it, I think you might find yourself hooked, like me!
