As a hard-core Francophile, I have a fantasy that someday, I’ll spend an extended period of time in France. I’ll ride around in one of those pretty pink bicycles with the straw basket in the front, into which I’ll put my groceries (which will, of course, include a fresh baguette!).
When I’m in Paris and can’t ride around in my bicycle, then I’ll walk through the open air markets filling my straw market basket with goodies (you can see, I’ve really thought this one through!?).
And this French Market Basket by Medina Mercantile is the one that I’ll use!
Medina’s website is lovely and they describe their business as follows:
Medina Mercantile offers high quality, well designed goods for your home and lifestyle. We are committed to working with artisans around the world, and in the United States, to support artists and crafts people directly. We look for products that are beautiful, primarily, and beautifully made, but we don’t buy anything that is not made with the highest integrity– our overseas suppliers work with women’s collectives in Bangladesh, farmer artisan weavers in Morocco, and local artists close to our home in the Blue Ridge of Virginia.
I love that. And I love the design of this gorgeous basket. It can, of course, be used on shopping excursions, but can also be used as a magazine basket, a beach tote or for travel. It’s beautiful and functional. And considerably cheaper than the bicycle 😉
